We Sing our Hearts Out!

For eight years, the Victoria Children's Choir has been pursuing the highest standards of training and performance. Established in 2001 by Madeleine Humer, the Victoria Children's Choir accepts children aged 8 to 15 who like to sing. The Choir promises an experience of the world of music created through the ages, in a range of languages and styles from Gregorian Chant through Gershwin and into Gospel and Contemporary.

In its short history, the Victoria Children's Choir has performed regularly with the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria as well as at major international conferences and festivals. It has also been honoured with the opportunity to perform for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The choir participated in Powell River's renowned International Choral Kathaumixw and last year was featured as one of the guest choirs giving a concert for Chorpodium, the Canadian National Choral Symposium in Victoria in May, 2006.

Through the two choir levels within the Victoria Children's Choir organization, young singers develop their vocal skills in a positive and nurturing environment.

The Recital Choir – Children ages 8 up, works under their own choir director and perform a repertoire specific to young singers. They are given the opportunity to learn the basics of focus, tuning, good vocal tone and musical phrasing geared to improving their skill level.  As they are ready, older choristers are encouraged to develop skills singing in two to three parts and experience and learn from different performance settings.

The Concert Choir - generally ages 12 to 15, takes young musicians who have confidence in their vocal skills, including tone, tuning and basic sight reading. They are introduced to the next level where they will perform with professional orchestras and musicians; experience world choral festivals; learn music of an international standard; and be challenged by singing in up to seven- and eight-part harmonies.
