Within both ensembles, children have the opportunity to master an advanced repertoire through progressive vocal development, performance experiences, and an understanding of music history, composition, and theory.
About the Apprentice Choir: For children beginning to explore their vocal interests and talents, the Apprentice Choir is the ideal environment to develop basic musical and choral skills. An enjoyable repertoire, suitable for the confidence and standards of our youngest members, ensures that kids learn how to become strong, enthusiastic singers. Through exercises, activities, and games, many progress their talents to eventually take part in our Concert Choir. The Apprentice Choir is also where Choristers deepen their love of singing, as well as develop social skills and friendships that have a positive impact throughout their lives. As the shared nature of the choral experience is introduced to new singers, they come to understand the dynamics of peer support. Structure: Choristers sing in the VCC's Christmas and Spring Concerts, Fall mini Concert and dinner, many community events during the season, immersion training camps, and special visits to ceremonies and seniors' residences. About the Concert Choir: The Concert Choir nurtures singers who have achieved a deep understanding and love of choral music. Meeting twice a week, their progressive rehearsals challenge their vocal, choral and musical skills; understanding of advanced musical literacy; and choral and vocal technique. Technically-demanding compositions that feature multiple parts and foreign-languages are studied, and performed to renowned success. Concert Choristers exhibit the epitome of VCC's singing standards for posture, breath, diction, resonance and tune, and fundamental music skills. These advanced singers have a principal role in annual Christmas and Spring Concerts, important community ceremonies, events, and special occasions. The choir is often invited to sing with symphony orchestras in performances of major works, and occasionally tours nationally and internationally. Led by Artistic Director, Madeleine Humer, Concert Choristers receive expertise and encouragement needed to make music a rewarding, life-long adventure.
