Maritimes Tour Journal, day nine: all along the sea shore

With an early start we boarded our bus and headed to Lunenburg. On the way, we passed through Mahone Bay with many lovely churches and beautiful homes along the gorgeous seaside.

At The Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic we discovered a fun museum. There was a “touch pool” with starfish and crabs. Interesting displays and facts. An interactive scale model launch of a schooner into a large tank that included all the steps, from “wedging up” to raise the keel to rituals and superstitious rites involved in the traditional process. We toured through a restored vintage schooner.

On our way to lunch, we walked along Montague Street and visited some shops. Our meal was served on a large, high deck overlooking Lunenburg harbour.

Arriving next in New Haven, we picked up Tobias Beale who lead a hike to Macou Island. We enjoyed the natural surroundings while the tide was out.

The day wasn’t done. At the famous Peggy’s Cove the Choir sang O’Canada to an appreciative group of tourists. The evening involved both dinner and a small concert at Paul’s Hall.
