On Saturday, February 21, we’re excited to be performing “The Majesty of Musick – Music for Royalty & Saints” – at the Pacific Baroque Festival (8:00 p.m., Alix Goolden Performance Hall.)
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE: Handel’s exquisite ode celebrates St. Cecilia, patron saint of music, through stunning arias for soprano and for tenor, along with rousing choruses with trumpets and drums, all set to text by John Dryden, reflect the theme of the universal harmony that pervades all of creation. “If the epithet grand, had been here intended to express sublimity and dignity, it might have been used with the utmost propriety; for I can recollect no movement that is more lofty and noble than this.” (Charles Burney)
