How do auditions work?

Auditions for the Concert Choir and the Recital Choir are held annually in May/June. You can request an audition by contacting our Executive Director.

On audition day, your child should come prepared to sing a favourite song for our Artistic and/or Music Director in order to determine a fit with our Recital or Concert Choir (based on experience, interest, and ability). Each assessment usually takes about 15 minutes and we try to keep it as relaxed and stress-free as possible. Parents can use this time to chat with our administrative staff and other parents to understand how choir life works.

What is fundraising for?

The Victoria Children’s Choir is a registered charitable organization and over half our operating budget is raised through grants, donors, and fundraising. We try to keep fundraising to a minimum for our families (one book of 10 raffle tickets for all choristers and an item for our silent auction from Recital and Concert Choir choristers). This allows us to keep our monthly fees quite low, and include things like weekend choir camps in our programming at no additional cost.

If our Concert Choir is planning a Tour, additional fundraising will take place specifically to offset the cost of travel for our families.

Do I have to attend an audition for the Prelude Choir?

No – this is a non-auditioned ensemble and you simply have to register. Registration is on a first come, first served basis up to 30 children. You can request information about registration by contacting our Executive Director.

How often does the Concert Choir go on Tour?

Our Board of Directors has approved a Tour schedule on a 4-year cycle:

  • Small tour (within North America)
  • No tour
  • Large Tour (international)
  • No tour
This schedule provides a guideline only – the Board and artistic team retain the right to make changes based on world events, invitations, and unforeseen opportunities.
