Embracing Change, Celebrating a Legacy

March 8, 2019

After 18 years as Artistic Director and Concert Choir Director of The Victoria Children’s Choir (VCC), founder Madeleine Humer has decided to retire as of June 30, 2020. The 2019/20 season will be Madeleine’s last at the artistic helm of the organization, and the Board has formulated a succession plan to begin the national search for a new Artistic Director. The position will be widely advertised in May/June of 2019 and the Selection Committee will work hard to find a candidate who can build on the Choir’s outstanding success as both a choral and a music education organization.

A copy of Madeleine’s letter, detailing the VCC’s origins, her fondest memories and thanks, can be found here.

The Board is grateful for Madeleine’s dedication and leadership, and pledges to do everything possible to take the organization forward in a way that builds on VCC’s proud history. The focus of the 2019/20 season will be to honour Madeleine and her legacy.

The Victoria Children's Choir is a Member of Choral Canada and the BC Choral Federation.

We would like to acknowledge that we gather on the unceded, ancestral lands of the Lekwungen speaking peoples – the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, who have stewarded these lands and waterways since time immemorial, and whose connection to the land continues to this day. We are grateful to live, learn, raise our families, and make music on these beautiful lands. We would also like to acknowledge our Métis, Inuit and urban Indigenous partners and friends who call these lands their home.
