December 2014

Family Christmas Concert | Victoria, BC

The gang was all there. Once again we gathered with our family, board, and staff members, as well as with special guests the Open Door Choir @ Our Place, Louise Rose, and Gizmo The Elf – and our wonderful audience – to enjoy the spirit of the holiday season. It was a warm afternoon (particularly with the terrific donations of hats, scarves, mitts, and more for admission).

Classical Christmas Concert – “Music for Midwinter” | Victoria, BC

For our annual Signature Concert, we heard the crisp and twinkling sounds of carols and songs. Over four dozen talented young choristers gathered with special guests – the St. Christopher Singers, and musicians of the Greater Victoria Youth Orchestra – to sing a variety of festive pieces – from Haydn’s Little Organ Solo Mass to carols that tell of shepherds, angels, and joy (to the world), traditional works from other countries, eras, and languages, and a number of familiar tunes that “decked the halls” in merriment.

World of Song, annual Signature Concert | Victoria, BC

An evening of joyful, earthy, Classical-era performance in the intimate “home concert” tradition. The Concert and Apprentice Choirs sang masterpieces, lullabies, and folk music of everything from work to love and wonders of the night. In 2014, the annual World of Song Concert featured timeless work by famous composers and musicians in a fun singing soiree! Congratulations to the 60 talented young choristers for their study and masterful performance of Hausmusik – the soundtrack of life.

Pacific Baroque Festival: Bach the Borrower | Victoria, BC

At Victoria’s annual early music concert series, the Victoria Children’s Choir once again brought attention to rare music from days and cultures past. Joining professional musicians, and Festival Artistic Director, Marc Destrubé, to sing the music of Bach’s four ‘Lutheran’ Masses. Choristers learned of his early cantatas that adapted music to a new Latin text and introduced new instruments.

Joined by the Victoria Conservatory of Music Young Professionals, the St Christopher Singers, and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra, our choristers performed:

– Sinfonia from Non sa che sia dolore, BWV 209 – Motet Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden, BWV 230, transcribed for strings – Concerto for three violins in D major, BWV 1064R – Missa Brevis in A Major, BWV 234
